Tokai university space information center (TSIC) became ten years old this year. The memorial ceremony of the tenth anniversary was held at TSIC, Kumamoto on November 4 with a large attendance of more than 300.
Since opening in 1986, TSIC has been very active as one of the largest satellites data receiving station in Japan. Receiving the data directly from earth observation satellite, weather satellite and so on and doing advanced digital image processing simultaneously, TSIC provides the information which can be applied in study of various fields for society. In addition, astronomical observation by high performance CCD camera, global positioning system (GPS) and astronomical measurement by wave are operated. TSIC collects these data for 24 hours consecutively with auto-receipt / transmission system. The data has been made use of as foundation data in the fields of the weather, the ocean, atmosphere, disaster monitoring, city planning, etc.
After the ceremony, laboratory tour and a meeting were done. Connecting with TRIC(Tokyo), TSIC attempt to be more substantial as a research organization corresponding to satellite age.
